Some plain old plein airs

I did these studies in my sketchbook for 113B. I really enjoyed trying to capture the different lighting conditions and colors during different times of day and weather conditions. The last one was probably the most difficult (it was literally raining on my sketchbook... I abandoned it half way through). All took about an hour and a half. (Next challenge: improving edge quality!) I like trees :B

From my moleskin while backpacking...

I went on the most spectacular backpacking trip in Desolation Wilderness this last summer. This is a drawing of the far bank of lake Margery from the sketchbook I carried with me. The morning after I drew this I saw a coyote across the water as I drank my morning coffee. Kind of beats the newspaper if you ask me.

114: Animal Drawings 09/08

Just so you know... chimpanzees are scary as hell. They act all cute, pushing their toy trucks around and curling up under blankets, but then they break out into dramatic, sometimes violent family arguments. What was once a family-friendly playground is now a war zone and chimps and children alike cry desperately while mothers look on with horror stricken faces. Yep, that's chimps for you.
